ICC ODI Cricketer of the year: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has chosen India’s star batsman Virat Kohli as the ‘ODI Cricketer of the Year’. Kohli won the award by defeating his teammate Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. During the ODI World Cup (ICC ODI World Cup 2023) held in India last year, Kohli batted brilliantly and made an important contribution in taking his team to the final. He is the first player in the world to win this award for the fourth time. Earlier, Kohli was also chosen the best ODI player for the years 2012, 2017 and 2018.

Let us tell you that Kohli has so far won 10 ICC awards. He is the only cricketer in the world to achieve this feat. After Kohli, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and India’s MS Dhoni have won ICC awards 4 times each. In the year 2023, Kohli performed brilliantly and scored 1,377 runs in 27 ODI matches at an average of 72.47 and strike rate of 99.13. During this period he had scored six centuries and eight half-centuries. This 35-year-old right-handed batsman had scored the maximum of 765 runs in 11 matches of the ODI World Cup. Along with taking 12 catches, he also took one wicket. In view of this performance, Kohli was chosen ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Gill was the batsman who scored the most runs in ODIs in the year 2023. He had scored 1,584 runs in the last 29 matches at an average of 63.36. Fast bowler Shami had taken 43 wickets in 19 ODIs last year at an average of 16.46. Shami took the maximum of 24 wickets in seven matches of the ODI World Cup with an average of 10.70. At the same time, New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell had scored 1,204 runs in 26 ODI matches in the year 2023 at an average of 52.34 and strike rate of 100.24. He had dismissed nine batsmen with his bowling. In the ODI World Cup, he scored 552 runs at an average of 69. Among women, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu was chosen as ‘ODI Cricketer of the Year’. She left behind Australia’s Ashley Gardner, New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr and England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt.
