SLIM is also carrying several scientific instruments including a camera, a spectrometer and a magnetometer. These instruments will be used to study the surface of the Moon and its environment. The SLIM mission is an important step forward for Japan’s lunar exploration program. This is the first time that Japan will attempt to land a spacecraft on the Moon. The success of this mission will pave the way for future missions, including a manned mission to the Moon in the 2020s.
