On the occasion of Dussehra in Jammu and Kashmir, a large number of people gathered at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar. Officials said that huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad were burnt in the field amid loud cheers. In Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led a traditional procession in the city as the chief saint of Gorakshpeeth on Vijayadashami. Maharashtra Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed a Dussehra rally in Nagpur and said that the idol of Lord Ram will be installed in the Ayodhya temple on January 22. He asked people to organize programs in temples across the country to celebrate the occasion.

The 10-day Dussehra festival concluded with ‘Jumbo Ride’ (elephant ride) in Karnataka’s Mysuru city on Tuesday. Goddess Chamundeshwari of Mysuru city was seated on ‘Howda’ made of 750 kg gold on ‘Abhimanyu’ (elephant) and taken out in procession. It included a group of well-equipped elephants. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed ‘Shastra Puja’ at his residence in Gandhinagar on the occasion of Dussehra. According to a state government release, Patel performed traditional puja of the weapons of his security personnel, which included automatic guns and pistols, amid Vedic chants. On this occasion, the Chief Minister greeted the people and urged them to take a pledge to create a peaceful and harmonious society.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the week-long Kullu Dussehra festival here on Tuesday. The festival started with the traditional Rath Yatra of Lord Raghunath.
