Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Keshav Maurya and state party officials attended the BJP core group meeting in New Delhi late on Monday evening. In the meeting, the names of the candidates of Meerut, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad and Moradabad for the first and second phase were considered. It is being said that the name of poet Kumar Vishwas will be discussed from Meerut.

A senior BJP leader said that many names including Kumar Vishwas, Arun Govil, MP Rajendra Agarwal, MLA Amit Agarwal, senior leader Sunil Bharala were discussed. The names of the candidates can be announced after the final approval is given in the meeting of the Central Election Committee. The party is skeptical about the caste equation. She is considering the issue especially keeping in mind the equation of Vaishya, Brahmin and Thakur.
