New Delhi. Champai Soren, the new leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Legislative Party, is considered close to party president Shibu Soren and working president Hemant Soren. Champai, MLA from Seraikela, had entered politics in the 90s through the movement for a separate Jharkhand state.

Champai is famous by the name of Tiger in Kolhan. He is the Central Vice President of JMM. Before this he had also been the General Secretary of the party.

Matriculation pass Champai Soren (69) had first won the by-election from Seraikela seat in 1991 as an independent. In this election, he defeated the wife of the then Singhbhum MP Krishna Mardi. From 1991 to 2019, he has been winning elections continuously from Seraikela except once. Champai has won from Seraikela six times so far. Became a minister thrice… Champai became a cabinet minister for the first time in the year 2010 in the BJP-JMM alliance government of Arjun Munda. He was also a minister in the JMM-Congress alliance in 2013. In 2019, Champai was again made a minister in the JMM-Congress alliance government of Hemant Soren on 28 January 2020.
