The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the extension on contract basis in the tenure of retired Indian Administrative Service officer Amit Khare as advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Talking about Khare, he was a 1985 batch IS of Jharkhand cadre who has been given extension in the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India on the basis of normal terms and conditions. The same rules apply in the case of re-employed officers of the level of Secretary in the Government of India. This service extension has been given to Amit Khare for a period after October 12, 2023 along with the tenure of the Prime Minister or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

After retirement, Amit Khare’s elder brother Atul Khare (IFS 1984 batch) has been given the responsibility of the Change Management Team (CMT) to give suggestions for improving the functioning of the United Nations.

First IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre to become advisor

Amit Khare, a retired 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, was appointed advisor to the Prime Minister. Khare was made advisor on the rank and pay scale of the Union Secretary for two years or till further orders. He is the first IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre to be made advisor to the Prime Minister. Amit Khare retired from the post of Central Higher Education Secretary on 30 September 2021. He also worked as Information and Broadcasting Secretary in the Central Government. While holding the post of Higher Education Secretary, he played an important role in formulating and implementing the new education policy 2020. He has worked as Education Secretary, Finance Secretary, Planning Secretary and Development Commissioner in Jharkhand. In the year 1996, while being DC in Chaibasa, he came into limelight by exposing the fodder scam.
