Indian Olympic Association President of P T Usha Spoke in detail to the media about India’s position in the Olympic Games and the facilities provided to the players. Addressing a press conference organized in Chandigarh, PT Usha said that today every facility is being provided to the players. We are sending them to participate in the games being held abroad, apart from good physiotherapists, they are being provided with various facilities like sports science related technology, medical facilities, nutritious food etc. Players are also being sent to foreign camps for training at government expense.
There has been improvement in performance abroad
PT Usha discussed about the better performance of Indian players in athletics. He said that the government and the union are cooperating. I am happy that since I became the IOA President, Indian players have started exhibiting world class performance in athletics. We have developed a system and the benefit of this is that despite it being very difficult to win in athletics at the world level, we have started winning. Referring to Neeraj Chopra, he said that our talented player Neeraj Chopra has recently won the gold medal in javelin throw. After that our players also reached the final in 400 meter relay race. It was a good performance. It is not an easy thing to perform like this on a world class track.
Introduction to PT Usha
Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha is one of the most successful athletes in Indian history. She is also known as the ‘Golden Girl’ of Indian athletics. Born in Kozhikode, Kerala, former sprinter PT Usha was trained by legendary athletics coach Om Nambiar from an early age. Interestingly, PT Usha is best remembered for the medal she did not win. She missed winning the bronze medal in the women’s 400 meter hurdles race at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics by just 1/100 of a second.
Everyone is proud of Neeraj’s performance
On behalf of India, Neeraj Chopra has made all Indians proud by winning gold medals in javelin throw in many competitions including the Olympics. During the press conference held in Chandigarh, Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha took his name and told everyone that India has now learned to play and win in world class athletics. At the age of 25, Neeraj has achieved what an athlete dreams of achieving in his entire life. In the final match of the World Athletics Championship 2023 held in Budapest, Neeraj created history by throwing the javelin 88.17 meters and winning the gold medal.
