ENG vs AFG, World Cup 2023: The 13th match of the World Cup 2023 was played between Afghanistan and England at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The first 12 matches of this tournament were one-sided and now on Sunday, October 15, a big upset took place. In this match, the Afghan team has defeated the defending champion England by 69 runs. This is England’s second defeat in this tournament. They had definitely defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs in the last match. But in the first match against New Zealand, the world champion team had to face a big defeat by 9 wickets.

This is Afghanistan’s first win against England in any format. Talking about this match, while playing first, Afghanistan team had scored 284 runs. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz had scored the highest run of 80 runs. After the fall of top order wickets, Ikram Alikhil played an excellent inning of 58 runs in the middle order. In the end, Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s 28 runs and Rashid Khan’s 23 runs took the score beyond 280.

These runs proved dangerous for England and the world champion team collapsed for only 215 runs. Harry Brook fought alone for England by playing an inning of 66 runs but could not lead his team to victory. Whereas Adil Rashid was the best bowler in bowling for England by taking 3 wickets. After that, he fought till the end in batting but was out after scoring 20 runs as the 9th wicket.

Afghan spinners shine
In this spectacular victory of Afghanistan, both the star spinners Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman showed their magic. After scoring runs for the team in the end, both of them also took 3 wickets each. Apart from these, Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets. Fazal Haq Farooqui and Naveen Ul Haq got one success each. After this victory, Afghanistan team has come sixth in the points table with 2 points. England also has two points and the team remains at fifth position.
