White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt cautioned that extended government shutdowns could lead to job losses for numerous federal employees. She suggested the situation could exacerbate political divisions within Washington, and accused Democrats of politicizing the ongoing crisis.
Leavitt stated that the country is currently in the third day of a shutdown which she attributed to the actions of Democrats. She claimed that Democrats are utilizing demands for free healthcare for undocumented immigrants as a point of leverage, thus affecting American citizens.
Leavitt noted that Republicans are united in their support for a non-partisan clean funding bill, the very same bill which Democrats previously approved to reopen the federal government in March. However, she highlighted that these same Senate Democrats are now opposing this bill. She expressed optimism that Democrats would soon reconsider their position and hoped for a change of heart.
Leavitt also underscored the significant personal hardships affecting millions of Americans due to the ongoing government shutdown. She emphasized that 1.3 million members of the US military, encompassing all branches of service, who serve and defend the nation, are not receiving their wages. Consequently, military families are seeking food assistance due to the financial pressures caused by the shutdown.
She stated that President Trump will end the reign of terror of the radical leftists in Portland. If the Democrats do the right thing, the shutdown can be resolved. However, if it continues, potential layoffs will be an undesirable outcome. Leavitt asserted that it was the Democrats’ vote to shut down the government that placed the White House and the President in this predicament.
Leavitt expressed that the President is deeply concerned by the atrocities in the Middle East. She stated the President inherited the current state of affairs from the Biden administration. The Middle East was on track towards peace and prosperity during President Trump’s first term, and the Abraham Accords were signed.
She expressed that Israel was moving towards normalization with Arab and Gulf nations. She asserted that the President has made it clear to Hamas that they must accept a detailed proposal or face consequences. Hamas has a deadline of Sunday at 6 p.m.
Leavitt stated that the entire world should listen to the President. Hamas has an opportunity to accept the plan and move forward in peace. Otherwise, the consequences would be dire.
