Vice President JD Vance has voiced his desire for his wife, Usha Vance, to convert to Christianity, although he stresses that the decision is entirely hers. Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, shared his thoughts at a recent public gathering. He acknowledged that when he met his wife, he was not religious, and she grew up in a Hindu household, though not in a strictly religious environment. “Do I hope, eventually, that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved by in church? Yeah, I honestly do wish that because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way,” Vance stated. He immediately followed this by underscoring the importance of free will in matters of faith. “But if she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, and so that doesn’t cause a problem for me,” he assured. The Vice President detailed how the couple manages their interfaith household, emphasizing their strong bond and open communication. They have collectively decided to raise their children in the Christian faith. Their children attend Christian schools, and the process of religious upbringing is ongoing. Usha Vance, the first Indian American Second Lady, has previously indicated in interviews that while she respects her husband’s faith, she does not intend to convert. The couple’s approach prioritizes love, mutual respect, and the individual autonomy of belief, ensuring a supportive environment for their family’s spiritual development.
