US Vice President JD Vance has spoken openly about his hope that his wife, Usha, who is Hindu, will one day convert to Christianity. During a public address at a Turning Point movement rally, Vance engaged with a question regarding interfaith relationships, sharing his personal perspective. He candidly admitted, “I’ll say now in front of 10,000 of my closest friends, do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved by Church”? Vance quickly followed this by affirming his belief in free will, stating that his wife’s independent choice is paramount. The couple, who met at Yale when both were exploring their beliefs, have agreed to raise their children in the Christian faith. Vance, who converted to Catholicism after a period of identifying as agnostic or atheist, stressed the need for open dialogue in any partnership. He advised couples to “talk to the person that God has put you with, and you’ve got to make those decisions as a family unit.” Following the remarks, Vance posted on X to clarify that his wife is not planning a conversion, emphasizing his unwavering love and support for her.
