A significant diplomatic push is underway as Ukraine begins peace negotiations with the United States, seeking a path to a “dignified end” to the war. Senior Ukrainian officials are meeting in Florida with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, with Presidential advisor Jaresh Kushner also in attendance. This meeting signifies Washington’s active involvement in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy conveyed his hope for a positive outcome, citing the US’ “constructive approach” as a key factor. He announced on X that the Ukrainian delegation, tasked with developing concrete steps to end the war, is fully prepared and acting on clear national priorities. “Ukraine continues to work with the United States in the most constructive way possible,” Zelenskyy stated, looking forward to the delegation’s report on the Geneva points and their further development in the US. The ultimate goal remains a “dignified peace.”
This diplomatic initiative occurs amidst escalating hostilities, with Zelenskyy reporting a significant number of Russian missile and drone attacks causing civilian harm. Earlier, President Putin acknowledged the potential of the US peace plan as a basis for future accords, but coupled this with a firm stance requiring Ukrainian withdrawal from occupied lands. Putin also confirmed an upcoming visit by a US delegation, led by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to Moscow for “serious discussion.”
