Typhoon Ragasa, having wrought havoc in Taiwan and the Philippines, is poised to strike southern China today, with the predicted landfall zone situated between Taishan and Zhanjiang. The impact in Taiwan has been severe, with a reported death toll of at least 14 in Hualien city. A further 124 people are unaccounted for after a barrier lake overflowed, leading to significant flooding. A contingent of 240 troops has been dispatched to Hualien to aid in rescue efforts.
