A significant earthquake, registering 6.1 on the Richter scale, jolted Turkey’s Balikesir province on Sunday. The quake’s origin was pinpointed in the Sındırgı district, and its effects were widespread, reaching as far as Istanbul, some 200 kilometers away. The tremors caused damage, including a building collapse in Sındırgı. The disaster and emergency agency reported multiple aftershocks, with one registering a magnitude of 4.6. Authorities have cautioned residents against entering structures that sustained damage. Turkey’s location on major fault lines makes it susceptible to frequent earthquakes.
