A significant earthquake struck approximately 127 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, within Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The quake, measured at a magnitude of 7.8, prompted immediate concern and action. Following the main shock, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for the region. Governor Vladimir Solodov of Kamchatka Krai, in a Telegram post, remarked on the event’s impact, stating, “This morning is once again testing the resilience of Kamchatka residents.” He also noted that there were no initial reports of damage and urged residents to remain calm. At least five aftershocks have been reported by Russia’s state geophysical service.
