The White House is pushing for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to former President Donald Trump, highlighting his role in negotiating peace deals and ceasefires in various global conflicts. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump’s interventions led to an average of one peace agreement per month.
Leavitt pointed to the Thailand-Cambodia conflict as an example, where Trump allegedly secured an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. She explained that Trump communicated with the leaders of both countries, linking trade negotiations to the cessation of the conflict. Leavitt also mentioned that Trump helped end conflicts involving Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India and Pakistan, Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia.
India, however, has disputed Trump’s assertions regarding the ending of hostilities between India and Pakistan. India maintains its policy of addressing any issues related to Jammu and Kashmir bilaterally. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that no global leader ordered India to cease its operations. Modi also described a discussion with the US Vice President concerning a potential Pakistani attack, during which he warned of a strong Indian response. The agreement for a cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan came about following a call between the DGMOs of both nations.
