Former US President Donald Trump is making a renewed effort to win the Nobel Peace Prize. This time, his focus is on ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza. A high-level meeting is planned for September 29th to discuss a potential ceasefire. The proposal is ready, and once Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approves, it will be presented to Hamas.
Trump hopes to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza by October 1st, which is crucial because the Nobel committee will announce the winner on October 10th.
Trump’s Hopes Tied to Gaza
Since October 2023, the Gaza conflict has resulted in over 65,000 deaths. Israel faces criticism from European and Arab nations. The United States openly supports Israel. French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that a successful resolution in Gaza could earn Trump the Nobel Peace Prize.
The US presidential office subsequently increased its efforts to mediate peace, which included a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister.
Nobel Peace Prize Criteria
The Nobel Peace Prize recognizes those who promote brotherhood among nations, work towards the elimination or reduction of standing armies, and contribute significantly to peace conferences and diplomacy.
Trump has previously claimed to have stopped seven wars during his initial months in office. However, conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war have persisted despite his prior statements.
Trump’s nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize has been supported by countries like Cambodia and Pakistan. He has also expressed his interest in receiving the award during UN speeches, stating he is effectively doing the UN’s work.
