Jake Sullivan, former US National Security Advisor, alleged that Donald Trump damaged the relationship between India and the United States to benefit his family’s business dealings in Pakistan. The allegations point towards Trump’s actions being influenced by potential financial gains from Pakistani ventures. Pakistan extended honors to Trump, including a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, while also involving his family members in the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC).
The foundation for these accusations rests on an agreement between World Liberty Financial and the Pakistan Crypto Council, signed after the Pehelgam attack in April, aiming to boost investment and innovation in Pakistan’s crypto industry. DT Marks DEFI LLC, a company linked to the Trump family, has significant holdings in World Liberty. Trump himself holds a prominent role as the ‘Chief Crypto Advocate,’ with his sons and other family members also involved in various capacities within the venture.
Several experts, including Sullivan, believe Trump’s affinity for Pakistan is driven by the family’s involvement in the Pakistani industry. The US-Pakistan relationship saw renewed warmth after a period of diplomatic strain. Trump hosted Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House to discuss trade and other collaborations.
A subsequent trade deal was announced, with the US planning to aid Pakistan in developing substantial oil reserves. This was followed by the imposition and subsequent increase of tariffs on Indian goods. Pakistan is expected to receive a shipment of US crude oil as part of the agreement, impacting the regional trade landscape. Energyco, Pakistan’s largest refinery, has contracted to import a million barrels of American crude.
Sullivan criticized Trump’s decisions, stating they negatively impact US interests. He emphasized the importance of a strong US-India relationship and the consequences of undermining partnerships globally.
