President Donald Trump is set to sign executive orders focusing on federal intervention in crime policies, targeting cashless bail and flag desecration. The first order will threaten to revoke federal funding for jurisdictions with cashless bail policies, as stated by a White House official. Trump has previously voiced strong disapproval of no-cash bail, associating it with rising crime rates. Trump has also expressed plans to use Republican votes in Congress to address the no-cash bail policy, as Democrats are seen as weak on crime. The President is also expected to sign an order directing the Attorney General to take action against flag desecration. This action comes despite a Supreme Court ruling protecting flag burning under the First Amendment. Trump has suggested Chicago as a future target for intervention, however, state and local officials have pushed back on threats to send in the National Guard.
