President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will enact severe economic measures against Russia if a peace agreement regarding the Ukraine war is not secured within 50 days. Trump, speaking at the White House during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, specified that these measures would include tariffs of 100 percent. He indicated his intention to use trade as a tool to facilitate the resolution of the ongoing conflict.
Alongside the warning, Trump addressed the US’s provision of military assistance to Ukraine. This includes the delivery of Patriot air defense systems, funded by the European Union. He also discussed plans for supplying weapons to NATO allies for them to then transfer to Ukraine. This approach, confirmed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is aimed at expediting the delivery of crucial supplies. Trump also mentioned upcoming high-level talks with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, underscoring the US’s continued commitment to supplying weaponry to Kyiv.
