Donald Trump has selected Sergio Gor to serve as the next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, a decision announced amid ongoing trade tensions between the two nations. Gor responded with gratitude, expressing his pride in the nomination. The appointment was also welcomed by US Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio, who highlighted the importance of the US-New Delhi relationship. The nomination comes as the Trump administration has placed additional tariffs on Indian goods. Trump highlighted Gor’s previous work in his administration and his role in his presidential campaigns. Gor will be replacing Eric Garcetti, with Jorgan K. Andrews currently leading the US Embassy in India as interim Charge d’Affaires.
