Donald Trump, commenting on China’s massive military parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, expressed both admiration and critique. He found the display impressive, but highlighted his disappointment that President Xi Jinping’s speech did not acknowledge the United States’ role in supporting China’s fight for independence. Trump felt that the U.S.’s contributions should have been recognized. During a bilateral meeting with the Polish President, Trump noted that he was watching the parade. Prior to the parade, Trump had accused Xi Jinping of conspiring against the United States, noting the presence of Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin at the event. He later expressed that he thought the US should have been mentioned in the speech. China’s parade featured a display of its military might, including new technologies. Xi Jinping emphasized peaceful development and described the country as ‘invincible’. Trump also remarked on his good relationships with all those involved. He also mentioned that it would not have been appropriate for him to attend the parade.
