The Houthi rebels pose a significant challenge to both Israel and the United States. Earlier this year, the US initially announced its intention to fight the Houthis, but after the rebels shot down a $50 million worth of US weapons, the US chose to negotiate with them. Israel faces daily missile attacks from the Houthis. Despite efforts to weaken Hezbollah and Hamas, Israel appears to be faltering in the face of the Houthi rebels. Numerous Israeli attempts to attack the Houthis have failed. The Houthis have also impacted Israel’s trade, reducing the number of ships arriving at its Eilat port and increasing Israel’s defense expenditure. Israel has recently sought international assistance to counter the Houthis.
