The world is reeling from natural disasters. Following an earthquake in Afghanistan, Sudan is now grappling with a devastating landslide. The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army announced that the landslide resulted in the loss of at least 1,000 lives. The scale of the destruction is immense, with a whole village in the Marra mountainous region of western Sudan being completely obliterated. This region falls within Darfur. Tragically, only one child survived the catastrophe.
The circumstances in Sudan are extremely grave. The group headed by Abdelwahid Mohamed Nour explained that heavy rainfall was the cause of the landslide. The rains on August 31st initiated the landslide, which completely engulfed a village, burying it. The Darfur region is under the control of the movement/group. They have appealed to the United Nations and international aid organizations for support. The landslide has tragically claimed the lives of thousands, including men, women, and children.
