An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border on Sunday. The USGS reported the quake’s epicenter near Jalalabad, Nangarhar province, at a depth of 8 kilometers. The powerful tremors were widely felt, extending to Delhi-NCR in India and across Pakistan. Following the initial quake, another earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred in the same area just minutes later. This recent event marks the fifth earthquake in Afghanistan within the last month, a region known for its seismic activity. In October 2023, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake caused significant devastation, with thousands of fatalities.
