Reports indicate that India and Russia are in the negotiation phase regarding the potential for additional S-400 missile systems. This comes as India already operates the S-400, a sophisticated air defense system designed to intercept a range of aerial threats. The discussions aim to broaden the scope of their existing military-technical cooperation. This development was revealed by a senior Russian defense export official and follows the recent meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin at the SCO summit. The original $5.43 billion deal in 2018 encompassed five squadrons of the S-400 system, with three already delivered. The system, locally referred to as “Sudarshan Chakra”, has demonstrated its effectiveness in neutralizing airborne threats, including drones. The remaining deliveries are scheduled for 2026 and 2027, and the final two units are expected within that period.
