Kyiv was struck by a wave of Russian missiles and drones on Thursday, leading to the deaths of at least eight people, including a child. Authorities reported that 22 others were injured, and residents remained trapped in the wreckage of a damaged building. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the Russian assault, emphasizing the loss of life and injuries sustained. On X, he shared details of the aftermath, with first responders clearing debris, and extended his sympathies to the affected families. Zelenskyy appealed to the international community for a stronger response, particularly from China, which has called for a ceasefire, and from Hungary, in light of the child casualties. He expressed the need for China to react, given its previous calls for peace and ceasefire, and for Hungary to respond to the tragic loss of children. The attack, targeting a residential building in the Darnytskyi district, resulted in considerable destruction and the potential entrapment of individuals. Zelenskyy suggested that these strikes were intended to undermine diplomatic efforts, accusing Russia of prioritizing continued violence. He demanded more stringent sanctions against Russia, citing the breakdown of diplomatic initiatives, and called for accountability for the ongoing conflict.
