Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, has issued a strong rebuke of the United States’ efforts to dissuade India and China from maintaining energy partnerships with Moscow. He suggested that the economic consequences of such actions could prove counterproductive. This response follows persistent attempts by the Trump administration to influence the trade dynamics of both nations.
Putin argued that increased tariffs on Russian trade partners would inflate global prices and potentially compel the US Federal Reserve to maintain elevated interest rates. This follows the Trump administration’s imposition of a 25% additional tariff on India, escalating the total tax on Indian exports to 50% by August. During a discussion with Russian experts, Putin stated, “India and China will not accept humiliation.”
