Vladimir Putin has issued a warning regarding the potential supply of Tomahawk missiles from the United States to Ukraine, stating that such a move would irrevocably damage relations between Russia and the US and instigate a new, perilous chapter of conflict. The comments were made in response to discussions about the US providing Ukraine with these missiles, which have a range capable of striking deep within Russia, including major cities. The Tomahawk missiles have a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers, potentially enabling strikes across the entirety of Russia. However, some US officials have expressed reservations, pointing out that many of these missiles are already in reserve within the US military. Putin, in an interview, underscored the detrimental impact of such a decision, adding that Russia is actively fortifying its air defense capabilities in response. Putin also highlighted the current state of relations between Russia and the West as the most strained since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. He stated that NATO’s expansion poses a threat to Russia’s security and aims to undermine its regional influence. While Western nations and Ukraine see this as aggression, European leaders fear that Putin might target NATO countries if Russia isn’t contained, which Putin has consistently denied.
