Over the past two days, Pakistani security forces have conducted operations in Balochistan, near the Afghan border, resulting in the deaths of at least 47 militants. The ISPR announced that an operation targeting the Sambaza area of Zhob district on the night of August 7-8 eliminated 33 militants. Another operation, conducted near Sambaza on the border with Afghanistan on the night of August 8-9, resulted in the deaths of 14 more militants. Security forces also seized weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the militants. Mobile and internet services have been suspended in Balochistan province, with the suspension lasting until August 31st, due to unidentified security concerns. This suspension was prompted by a request from the Balochistan government, as per a notification issued by the Balochistan Home Department on August 6th. Government spokesperson Shahid Rind verified the decision. Pakistan’s Independence Day is on August 14th. Authorities are on high alert, fearing terrorist attempts to disrupt the celebrations. A recent bomb blast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in northwestern Pakistan, caused three fatalities and injured 13 others, including three police personnel. The explosion happened near a police patrol vehicle at a taxi stand in the Wana tehsil of South Waziristan. Since the end of the ceasefire between the government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022, militant attacks have increased, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
