The New York City mayoral election is in full swing, with an impressive 735,000 early votes cast, signaling heightened voter interest. Zohran Mamdani, a prominent Democratic socialist, appears to be leading the race, outpacing Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in recent surveys. The uptick in early voting, especially among younger citizens, suggests a dynamic electoral landscape.
According to the latest AtlasIntel poll, Mamdani garnered 41% of the vote, with Cuomo trailing at 34% and Sliwa at 24%. This poll, which surveyed around 1,500 voters, indicated Mamdani’s lead had slightly tightened, though earlier polls from outlets like Fox News and Marist University showed him with more comfortable 16-point advantages. Other polling organizations, including Quinnipiac University and the Manhattan Institute, also place Mamdani significantly ahead.
Young voters demonstrated increased participation towards the end of the early voting period. While approximately 80,000 individuals under the age of 35 voted from Sunday to Thursday, this figure rose sharply over the weekend, with over 100,000 young voters casting ballots between Friday and Sunday. The final Sunday alone saw more than 45,000 voters under 35 participate.
