Gor revealed that the Trump administration is prioritizing getting India to cease its purchases of Russian oil. He also stated that the US and India are not far apart in reaching an agreement on tariffs. “We are not very far apart on an agreement on these tariffs,” Gor said. He added, “Getting India to stop buying Russian oil is the top priority of this administration.” According to Gor, a promising agreement is expected soon, with negotiations on the details already underway. He suggested that the matter would likely be resolved in the near future. Gor underscored the strategic importance of India as a partner, highlighting its role in regional stability, economic growth, and shared security interests. He pointed to the strong bond between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi, describing it as an “incredible relationship,” even amidst trade-related tensions. Before his nomination as the next US ambassador to India, Gor was the Director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. The appointment is yet to be confirmed by the US Senate. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, introducing Gor, acknowledged the strong US-India ties, calling it “one of the best relationships in the world.”.
