The Israeli government has authorized a plan to occupy Gaza City, a move following the severe damage and destruction across the region. This decision, announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, is a direct response to the October 7th attack by Hamas, marking a continuation of the conflict that has lasted for 22 months. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the security cabinet approved the Prime Minister’s proposal aimed at defeating Hamas. The conflict has led to significant loss of life among Palestinians, the destruction of large areas in Gaza, and the looming threat of famine for nearly two million residents. Before the cabinet meeting, Netanyahu explained that the goal is to re-establish control over the entire Gaza region and then hand it over to Arab forces that would act as allies against Hamas.
