Sushila Karki has been appointed as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal amidst the backdrop of Gen-Z protests. In her first speech, she acknowledged the importance of listening to the country’s youth. Karki, the former Chief Justice, highlighted the demands of the Gen-Z generation, who have been protesting against corruption, and emphasized the need to align government actions with their vision for an end to corruption, good governance, and economic parity.
Karki, known for her integrity and strong stance against corruption, has pledged to prioritize its elimination during her interim governance. She stated she didn’t initially seek the position, but was called upon by the people.
She underscored that the interim government’s term would be limited to six months, with the goal of fulfilling their responsibilities and transferring power to the upcoming parliament and ministers.
Elections for a permanent government are planned for March 5th. Karki has also committed to offering financial assistance of approximately 10 lakh rupees to the families of those who lost their lives in the protests. The new PM visited the injured in a Kathmandu hospital last Friday.
