Nepal’s temporary government has prohibited former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and other key individuals from leaving the country. The travel restrictions also apply to former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, ex-Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi, former National Investigation Department head Hutraj Thapa, and former Kathmandu Chief District Officer Chhabi Rizal. A three-member committee, formed to investigate the demonstrations of September 8 and 9, made this decision.
The committee is led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, a former Supreme Court judge, with members including former police officer Bigyan Ran Sharma and legal expert Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari. The committee has a three-month deadline to deliver its findings. The violent protests in Nepal led to 72 fatalities, including three police officers. K.P. Sharma Oli stepped down from his position in the aftermath of these events.
