At the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged India’s leadership to champion a ‘Humanity First’ approach. During his address, Modi advocated for reforming global governance institutions to reflect contemporary realities. He stressed the necessity of the UN Security Council, IMF, World Bank, and WTO to undergo urgent reforms. Furthermore, Modi condemned terrorism, highlighting the Pahalgam terror attack as an attack on all of humanity, urging the BRICS nations to strengthen the global fight against terrorism. He also addressed conflicts, calling for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve them. India’s chairmanship will focus on ‘Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability’, said the PM. Modi also put forward proposals for the BRICS New Development Bank, a research repository, secure supply chains for critical minerals, and responsible AI governance, emphasizing BRICS’s role in shaping a multipolar world.
