Authorities recovered the bodies of four elderly family members of Indian origin who went missing while on a religious trip in West Virginia. The Marshall County Sheriff, Mike Doherty, announced the grim news on Sunday. The victims were identified as Kishore Diwan, age 89, Asha Diwan, age 85, Shailesh Diwan, age 86, and Geeta Diwan, age 84. They were traveling from Buffalo to Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold in Marshall County in a 2009 green Toyota Camry with the New York license plate EKW2611. According to the Sheriff’s Department, all four individuals died in a car accident. The car and the bodies were discovered late Saturday night, at approximately 9:30 PM, at the base of a steep slope on Big Wheeling Creek Road. Rescue teams remained on the scene for approximately five hours. Sheriff Doherty conveyed his sympathies to the families and stated that further details would be provided after the conclusion of the investigation. The family was last seen on July 29 at a Burger King restaurant in Pennsylvania. They were heading to Mountsville, West Virginia, by way of Pittsburgh. Local police departments in both Marshall and Ohio counties conducted searches of the surrounding areas, and the vehicle information was shared with the National Crime Information Center. A missing persons report was filed in Buffalo. The Council of Heritage and Arts of India (CHAI), a volunteer organization in Williamsville, New York, assisted in the search efforts. Sibu Nair, the president of the organization, shared the group’s worry and prayers for their safe return.
