Overnight, Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine, utilizing drones and missiles, resulting in at least four deaths. The city of Kyiv bore the main impact of the strikes. This recent offensive represents the most significant assault since the previous month’s attack on Kyiv, which claimed at least 21 lives. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged the attacks through a public post, offering condolences to the affected families and detailing the casualties. He noted the sustained duration of the assault, indicating over 12 hours, and characterized it as an intentional act of terror targeting civilian centers.
The attacks primarily focused on Kyiv and its surrounding region, alongside Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa regions, as stated by Zelenskyy. “The building of the Cardiology Institute was damaged in the capital. As of now, four people have been reported killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. My condolences to all the families and loved ones. Across Ukraine, at least 40 people are known to have been injured, including children,” Zelenskyy wrote. The strikes caused damage to various infrastructure elements, including a bread production facility, a tire manufacturing plant, residential buildings, and other civilian infrastructure. Zelenskyy assured the public that all essential services were actively engaged on the ground to address the situation.
Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s actions, accusing Moscow of seeking to prolong the conflict and increase casualties. He urged for strong international measures against Russia, claiming that the Kremlin profits from the continuation of the war, particularly from energy revenues and its shadow fleet operations. In light of the attacks and the resulting casualties, Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s determination to strike back to curb Russia’s revenue sources and push for diplomatic resolutions. “We will continue to strike back to deprive Russia of those revenue streams and to compel it toward diplomacy. Everyone who wants peace must back President Trump’s efforts and halt any Russian imports. The time for decisive action is long overdue, and we count on a strong response from the United States, Europe, the G7, and the G20,” he added.
