Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, has rejected direct negotiations with the United States concerning the nation’s nuclear program. The rejection occurred on Tuesday, during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s presence at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This stance is likely to limit Pezeshkian’s ability to interact with American representatives.
The declaration was made by Khamenei during a televised speech on Iranian state television. The timing followed discussions between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and European officials, aimed at avoiding the reinstatement of nuclear sanctions, scheduled for Sunday.
