Iran has leveled accusations against the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, alleging that these nations are exploiting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for political gain.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, made the comments in reaction to claims that Western nations were working to pass a resolution against Iran at the IAEA’s Board of Governors meeting in Vienna.
Baqaei said Iran had cooperated with the IAEA in the past but claimed the US and the three European nations have been using the agency for their political interests. He emphasized Iran’s adherence to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and Comprehensive Safeguard Agreements.
It is understood that France, Britain, Germany, and the United States are backing a draft resolution criticizing Iran for not complying with its safeguard obligations.
In other developments, it has been reported that former US President Donald Trump sought the help of Russia in restarting stalled nuclear talks with Iran. Yury Ushakov, an aide to the Russian President, stated that Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump discussed the US-Iran nuclear deal over the phone and Trump believed Russia’s assistance would be beneficial.
