The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, has issued a directive prohibiting the country’s media from publishing or broadcasting statements made by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The government’s move follows the assertion that Sheikh Hasina’s statements are misleading and potentially destabilizing. Any media outlet found to be in violation of this directive will face legal consequences, as per the government’s announcement.
The government’s press branch said that certain media organizations had disregarded legal and court guidelines by airing a speech by Sheikh Hasina. The government alleges that the speech contained misleading and inflammatory content. The government also cited that the International Crimes Tribunal found Sheikh Hasina guilty. Charges of crimes against humanity are still pending against her.
