Following an explosion and subsequent fire aboard the MV Wan Hai 503 near Kerala, China has conveyed its gratitude to India for its efficient rescue operations. The ship, carrying containerized cargo, was 44 nautical miles from Azhikkal, Kerala, when an explosion was reported. Of the 22 crew members, 14 were Chinese nationals. The Indian Coast Guard immediately deployed ships for firefighting and assistance. The forward-bay fire is under control, but thick smoke continues. The vessel is listing, and some containers have fallen overboard. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with focus on the missing crew members.
