The Indian government is closely watching the ongoing developments in Nepal, where Gen Z protests have led to significant unrest. India has urged its citizens in Nepal to be vigilant and adhere to local guidelines issued by the authorities. The protests, which began in response to the government’s ban on multiple social media platforms, have escalated dramatically. Protesters set fire to the Nepal parliament building, leading to extensive damage.
Reports indicate at least 19 fatalities and over 200 injuries following police action against the demonstrators. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs conveyed its concern over the loss of life, offering sympathies to the affected families and wishing the injured a swift recovery. The MEA also expressed its hope for peaceful resolution of the issues through dialogue.
Curfews have been implemented in several cities, including Kathmandu. Indian nationals have been advised to exercise caution and comply with the directives issued by Nepali authorities. Demonstrations occurred in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Itahari, and Chitwan. Police opened fire in at least two locations, Kathmandu and Itahari, resulting in fatalities.
