In a significant diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Ghana’s highest civilian award, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, from President John Dramani Mahama. The award acknowledges his notable statesmanship and impactful global leadership. Modi dedicated the honor to the aspirations of Indian youth, its cultural traditions, and to the historical ties between Ghana and India. He emphasized the shared democratic values and traditions of the two countries would continue to nurture the partnership. During the visit, India pledged to establish a Skill Development Centre to train youth and contribute to Ghana’s ‘Feed Ghana’ initiative. The nations will expand cooperation in sectors like agriculture, education, defence, healthcare, and digital payments. India will also double the number of ITEC and ICCR scholarships available to Ghanaians. Furthermore, plans are underway to double trade volume between the two countries within five years and introduce Bharat UPI to enhance financial links. This visit represents a pivotal moment in India-Ghana relations, marking the first visit by an Indian PM in over three decades and signaling a commitment to strengthening ties with Africa and the Global South.
