Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited India from August 18-19, 2025, following an invitation from India’s NSA Ajit Doval. A key meeting took place between Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, focusing on the crucial role of border peace in fostering positive relations. Jaishankar underscored the importance of addressing border issues, which would be discussed the following day with NSA Doval. He noted that the ability to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential for any progress in their ties, along with the need for de-escalation. The leaders also discussed the international landscape. Jaishankar advocated for a fair and balanced world order, including a multipolar Asia, and emphasized the need for multilateral reforms. Global economic stability and the fight against terrorism were also key points.
Wang Yi mentioned the efforts to maintain peace in border regions and the resumption of Indian pilgrimages. He expressed optimism about expanding cooperation to strengthen the positive trajectory of China-India relations, allowing both countries to contribute to each other’s growth and provide stability to the region and the world. The 24th round of Special Representatives’ Talks on the India-China boundary question, between Wang Yi and NSA Doval, was also planned.
