The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained Bruna Ferreira, an individual formerly engaged to Michael Leavitt, brother of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Ferreira’s attorney, Todd Pomerleau, stated she was apprehended by ICE agents while on her way to collect her son from school. Pomerleau vehemently denied any wrongdoing on his client’s part, describing her detention as unjust and a ‘merry-go-round’ across multiple states. He characterized Ferreira as a responsible individual, a business owner who pays taxes, and a devoted mother with no criminal history or flight risk. Ferreira, who has lived in the U.S. since childhood and participated in the DACA program, was seeking a green card. The Department of Homeland Security cited a visa overstay and an alleged prior battery charge, which her attorney strongly refutes, citing a lack of evidence. While Ferreira has minor traffic violations on record, her legal representative insists on the absence of any significant criminal past that would justify her current predicament and potential deportation. The case underscores the intricate nature of immigration law and enforcement.
