Former President Donald Trump is intensifying his calls for a Department of Justice investigation into the 2020 presidential election, describing the alleged rigging as the “biggest scandal in American history.” Trump, who lost the 2020 race to Joe Biden, has persistently claimed the election was fraudulent, despite numerous official reviews and court rulings refuting these allegations.
Trump has advocated for significant changes to voting procedures, urging an end to widespread mail-in and early voting in favor of strict voter identification laws to prevent perceived fraud. He also criticized California’s Proposal 50, a measure designed to alter congressional district boundaries, raising concerns about its implications.
On his social media platform, Trump stated, “The 2020 Presidential Election, being Rigged and Stolen, is a far bigger SCANDAL.” He implored the DOJ to investigate with the utmost seriousness, warning that a lack of action could pave the way for similar electoral irregularities in the future, including the impending midterm elections.
He further articulated his preference for in-person voting on election day and robust voter ID verification, expressing skepticism about the handling of mail-in ballots, particularly in California. Trump urged Republicans to “GET SMART” to prevent potential manipulation.
The period following the 2020 election was marked by Trump’s continued claims of rigging, which were consistently rejected by election authorities and the judiciary. These events followed the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, by individuals supporting Trump’s election fraud narrative.
