New Delhi. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani acknowledged the change in the leadership of opposition leader and her arch rival Rahul Gandhi after the party got relief in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Along with this, she also warned the BJP not to live under the illusion that Rahul’s actions are good, bad or childish, but to recognize that he has changed his politics.

Irani said during the podcast that the Rae Bareli MP believes he has “tasted success” and has now adopted a different style in political discourse. “Rahul Gandhi has experienced a change in his politics. He believes he has tasted success. For the first time, he is speaking so effectively. Rahul Gandhi is now doing a different kind of politics,” she said.

Smriti said that Rahul is very careful in his speeches when it comes to speaking about caste. She mentioned that Rahul wears T-shirts in Parliament because he knows what message it will send to the younger generation.

He said, “When he speaks about caste, he takes a significant stand for the first time in his political history. When he wears a white T-shirt in Parliament, he knows what kind of message it sends to the youth.” Apart from this, he also warned the BJP that we should not live in the wrong perception about his actions – whether you consider them good, bad or childish – he is doing a different kind of politics.

It is worth noting that Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi from his stronghold Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, she lost to Gandhi family confidant Kishori Lal Sharma in the 2024 elections. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi won both Wayanad and Rae Bareli seats.

The Congress party managed to secure 99 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, up from the 52 seats it won in 2019. However, the Indian bloc secured 235 seats.
