Following an Israeli attack, Qatar is hosting an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha on September 15. The summit has brought together ministers from Muslim countries around the world. Preparatory meetings took place on Sunday, ahead of the main summit scheduled for Monday.
According to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, the summit will discuss a proposal regarding the Israeli attacks on Qatar. The draft of the proposal was developed during a ministerial meeting on Sunday.
Al-Ansari emphasized that the summit signifies widespread Arab and Islamic solidarity with Qatar, condemning Israeli state-sponsored terrorism in the process.
The summit is taking place after Israel launched an air strike on Qatar on Tuesday, attempting to assassinate senior Hamas leaders. The attack was widely condemned by Arab nations, as well as the United States and other Western countries. Qatar is now the sixth nation to be targeted by Israel recently, with previous attacks targeting Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani indicated that Qatar intends to provide a collective response to the attacks, which pose a significant risk to the region, following his meeting with Trump in New York on Friday.
Qatar has long played a crucial role in mediation efforts and has worked to end the Israeli war in Gaza, while also promoting regional unity. The recent Israeli attack has jeopardized all these peace efforts. The summit could result in significant decisions affecting relations with Israel, potentially leading to the complete severance of ties.
The significance of this emergency summit is highlighted by the fact that over 200 journalists and media professionals from different regional and international media outlets, including local media, correspondents, and press are converging on Doha to cover the event.
