Operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were brought to a standstill Saturday afternoon due to a fire that erupted near Gate 8. The incident, which started around 2:30 pm, prompted aviation authorities to suspend all flight movements. A massive firefighting effort was mobilized, with 28 units from the Fire Service and Civil Defence actively engaged in dousing the blaze. Support units from the Air Force and Border Guard Bangladesh were also deployed. Airport officials stated that all aircraft were secured and vowed to provide continuous updates. Preliminary reports indicate no injuries or significant structural damage. The cause of the fire is under active investigation. The airport’s expected reopening time is 6:00 pm, during which time many inbound flights were rerouted to other airports, including those in Chattogram and Sylhet.
